This is no bog standard Wednesday, it’s World Toilet Day! No we aren’t taking the piss and this isn’t a day dedicated to toilet humour, it’s actually a day to raise awareness for the 2.5 billion people around the world who don’t have the luxury of a safe toilet.

If you want to learn more you can head over to the ‘My Toilet‘ exhibition at The Royal Opera Gallery which features women, girls and toilets from 20 countries ranging from Ghana to Australia, India to London. It is comprised of images and stories of the women and their toilets and displays the vast array of toilets and how each of them effect the women’s lives.

Many of us take our shiny white loos for granted, but there are plenty of people out there with a bit of a bum deal. No toilet can mean a lack of dignity, employment and status. Head over to mytoilet to find out more.

Entry is free. The Royal Opera Arcade Gallery, Pall Mall, SW1Y 4UY. Open now until Saturday November 22.10am – 5pm.
