Souper popular: be prepared to queue for London’s newest ramen restaurants

Not since the first Wagamama opened in 1992 have we seen such huge queues for a ramen bar. At Ippudo at St Giles Circus we’ve been turned away by a ‘one-hour’ wait. And there’s no solace if you decide to go to Kanada-ya, the little ramen bar just across the road; the queues are just as long. So what to do next? Give up on the idea of ramen and go to Smoking Goat, the new Thai café-bar just around the corner? Guess what? One-hour wait. No wonder McDonald’s does so well. By Guy Dimond
