December isn’t all about Christmas, yeah? There’s a bunch of other awesome stuff going down too. Our mates at LondOntheinside have rounded up five things they’re most excited about this month…
‘One of our favourite albums this year is the Temples debut, a self produced, mesmerisingly psychedelic LP. As well as making ’60s inspired pop gems, they look like rock ’n’ roll gods. Just too exciting to miss. Support comes from Britpop inspired Brummies band Superfood. WORD!’ The Forum, Dec 3.
Old Speckled Haven
‘This time of year can be extremely stressful and we all need a retreat to be able to get in the zone, get focused and nail the task in hand. Which is why we’ll be down the pub at the Mason Arms sipping FREE pints of Old Speckled Hen. And to make your drinking even more productive, there’s iPads for prezzie-buying, wrapping services and cards. AWESOME.’ Mason Arms, Dec 3.
‘Street food fans will probs already know Hot Box, the servers of banging BBQ food that’s often found at various markets. Well, they go permanent this month with the opening of a restaurant in Spitalfields. Think wagyu short rib tacos and bone marrow gravy mash. We’ll leave it at that.’ Spitalfields, opens Dec 4.
Enchanted Nordic Yulefest
‘It’s the festive season and with it comes a whole host of Scandinavian pop-ups. We’re digging Yulefest, not least because of the cocktail names – Sandy Claws, anyone? But also because you get to drink glühwein from boot-shaped glasses.’ The Old Shoreditch Station, Dec 6–21.
Tulse Hill Hotel
‘When the festive mayhem descends, sometimes you’ve gotta get outta the city. We’re huge fans of a staycation and this new boutique hotel with a crackin’ restaurant – headed up by Daniel Stevens of River Cottage – is the perfect place to ‘escape’ for a night or two.’ Dulwich, opens Dec 6.
