London food market pioneers KERB are taking their eats off the streets for the winter. But before you spit out your bao bun in anger, let us reassure you that they are still very much in action over the chillier months, serving up street food aplenty at their new indoor home, The Clubhouse in Hackney Wick, every Friday and Saturday evening.
We headed along to check out the new digs and were impressed to see all our favourite vans had managed to park up indoors. Kimchinary were there flipping their Korean take on tacos, the lads at Crabbieshack were stuffing brioche buns with soft shell crab patties, You Doughnut were supplying dessert thick and fast and Bleecker St Burger even had their own corner of the complex, with a mighty queue forming as the night drew on.
There’s a great party vibe, with a winter cocktail bar – chestnut-flavoured sherry, anyone? – DJ sets and an appearance from the rather festive-sounding Hackney Colliery Band every Friday. You’ll still have to wrap up warm in this abandoned mirror factory on Fish Island, but luckily the various grills provide a touch of residual heat. The only drawback at The Clubhouse? You may struggle to get that deep-fried aroma out of your scarf for a couple of days after. A small price to pay, we reckon.
Kerb at The Clubhouse, 105 Monier Road. Every Friday & Saturday until March.
