Learn from ‘Home Alone’ and don’t forget the kids: take the little ’uns to meet Mr Claus the Whippersnappers Winter Wonderland in Dulwich (£18.50 children, £5 adults). There are elves, mince pies, hot chocolate, mulled wine for grown-ups and activities including gingerbread decorating, helping out in the toy workshop and – of course – a meeting with the big man himself (Santa, not JC).

Nearby pub The Florence, in Herne Hill, is a kiddie- friendly boozer with a huge playroom, and house-brewed beer the adults.

End the day with ‘Phil Ellis: Funz and Gamez’, a marvellously bonkers interactive comedy show at Soho Theatre. It’s billed for kids, but the irreverent antics are just as fun for adults, too (£10, £30 family ticket). There’s even an elf called Jim.
