What are you doing tonight? We can only assume you’re either having a brainstorming session with some mates or reading ‘App-Building For Dummies’ because London’s now a start-up superpower.

More than a third of businesses launched in the UK in 2014 were based in London, a report from StartUp Britain has revealed.

The Centre for Entrepreneurs initiative found that 581,173 businesses were registered with Companies House last year. (That’s the most ever, FYI.) And, of those businesses, 184,671 were based in the capital. To put that into perspective, Birmingham took second place with just 18,337 start-ups.

The figures mean that around one in every 20 Londoners started a business in 2014 (since the city has a population of eight million-ish). Aren’t we bloody brilliant?! That said, the sky-high results could be skewed by population density in capital.

Either way, there must be plenty of Londoners stressing out about getting their self-assessment tax return done right now.
