The great British grate-off: The Cheesegrater could get a twin

In the post-Gherkin school of buffet-themed architecture, 122 Leadenhall Street (aka The Cheesegrater) is an icon. Now, according to The Architects’ Journal, there’s a proposal to erect the City’s tallest building next door. The new design echoes the original’s sloping façade, the effect being a sort of double Cheesegrater. Good news or bad news? Well, given The Cheesegrater’s habit of shedding humoungous metal bolts, it’s possible they’d be the least welcome twin towers outside of Mordor. Or maybe everyone would love ’em. Either way, financial big cheeses, form an orderly queue.
