No, there hasn’t been a hurricane in London, this pile of bus wreckage was caused by a tree. Earlier today, Monday Feb 2, the route 91 bus had its roof ripped clean off by a tree near Holborn. At the time there were around 20 passengers riding on the upper deck but thankfully nobody appears to have been seriously injured.

Witnesses described seeing the top of the bus slide off the vehicle and panes of glass shatter on the floor. Shopkeeper Llewelyn Hill described ducking from flying shrapnel and hearing a sound similar to a lorry tyre exploding (oddly specific reference point there, Llewelyn).

A spokesperson from the London Fire Brigade said: ‘The bus was travelling southbound down Kingsway when it hit a tree which has taken the roof off.’

But how on earth did a tree manage to create such havoc? Did it have cleavers attached to its branches?!

An investigation into the details of the incident is taking place, so watch this space for more info.
