It’s been a week of great news for cyclists. First, we heard that a ‘Crossrail for bikes‘ is actually happening. Now we’ve caught wind that a new block of flats, designed especially for bike lovers, is getting built on City Road.

The twin-towered property has one bike parking space per bedroom (that’s 1,486 in total), compared to just 200 car parking spaces. Plus, it also has dedicated bike lifts and a bike workshop for residents to use. It’s an anti-pollution revolution, a congestion rejection.

Built on the site of a 1980s business park, the flats were originally going to have 1,223 bike spaces – meeting Boris Johnson’s new recommendations for properties – but Islington Council insisted on more at a planning meeting.

Bad news: the flats won’t be finished until 2018, and prices start at £595,000 for a studio apartment. Still, what you’ll be spending in inflated rent you can save by zipping around town on two wheels.
