Alka-Seltzer, bacon butties, weapons-grade coffee – whatever your hangover remedy of choice, stock up now, because London Beer Week is imminent. Hitting the city for the first time on February 16, LBW is a seven-day celebration of all things malty, hoppy and inebriating, including beer-matching dinners, brewery tours, cut-price pints and much more. Here’s our pick of the events worth risking a headache for.
Craft Beer Rising, Old Truman Brewery, Shoreditch, Feb 19-22
This weekend-long celebration of small brewers has been around since 2013, but expect the beer buzz to be bigger than ever now that it’s been absorbed into London Beer Week. It’s a given that where craft beer goes, street food follows, so expect plenty of smoky meat to go with your small-batch pints.
£17-£22 (includes a £5 beer token, glassware and programme).
Public ‘live’ brew, UBREW, Bermondsey, Feb 17 and 18, 6.30pm
Fancy getting yourself a wedge of the craft beer pie? The folks at UBREW – a shiny new brew-it-yourself facility in Bermondsey – will show you how it’s done. As well as tutoring in the basics of beer-making, the UBREW crew are inviting LBW wristband holders to get hands-on with their kit and prepare a batch from start to finish.
£15 for LBW wristband holders.
Beer vs Meat, Redchurch Brewery Tap Room, Bethnal Green, Feb 19-21, 7pm
The two tentpoles of the average Londoner’s diet collide in this one-off tasting session. Tickets aren’t cheap, but include five Redchurch brews paired with complementary charcuterie.
Camden x Beavertown x Left Hand Beer Dinner, The Horseshoe, Hampstead, Feb 18, 6.30pm
Two giants of London’s craft beer scene join forces with Colorado’s Left Hand Brewing to host an evening of beer-matched grub. The ticket price covers canapés and a three-course dinner, with brews to match the flavour of each.
£3 pints, citywide
Pop-ups and gimmickry aside, the best bit of London Beer Week is the £3 pints being served up at some of London’s best boozers. Participating bars include the Sebright Arms in Hackney, (£3 Hackney Brewery cask ales), the Rake in London Bridge (£3 cask ales) and the Exmouth Arms in Clerkenwell (£3 pints of White Coffee stout). See the full list of offers at the bottom of this page. Just remember that you’ll need to buy a £10 wristband to get involved.
Head to the London Beer Week website to grab your wristband and see the full schedule of events.
