Want to pretend you’re a celebrity without having to pay a bunch of friends to pose as paparazzi? Today is your lucky day, pal. Legendary restaurant The Ivy is getting a refit, and owner Richard Caring is selling off loads of items from its old interior.
This is no ordinary Gumtree sale, though. Up for grabs: cocktail mixers that have served David Beckham and Tom Cruise, ivory leaf-engraved bar glasses, Sir Peter Blake’s £5,000 Marilyn Monroe wall collage and the £1,500 front door. The auction will be held at Sotheby’s on March 25 with all proceeds raised going to charity Made In Britain.
Owner Richard Caring says: ‘I want the legend of The Ivy to live on, and now that we are making some contemporary amendments I thought it would be a good opportunity to offer people the chance to own some of its history. I‘ve often had people tell me that they wish they could buy some of our pieces and furniture and now they can.’
We imagine you, like us, are struggling to find anywhere to eat while the restaurant is closed, but don’t panic, the brand new super-swish Ivy will open in May.
