Alex Chinneck is the artist who made Covent Garden Market float. He’s also the brains behind last year’s melting wax house. Now he’s back, with another dramatic installation. Screen Shot 2015-02-19 at 12.32.02

The sculptor has teamed up with Vauxhall Motors and the Southbank Centre on a new piece. The work appears to show 15 metres of peeled back tarmac with a car hanging upside down off it – and no visible support system. He says: ‘With an effortlessly curling road I hoped to transcend the material nature of tarmac and stone, giving these typically inflexible materials an apparent fluidity.’

You’ll be able to see the work in Hungerford Car Park on Belvedere Road, beside The London Eye, until next Wednesday (February 25).

Take a look at this great timelapse of the installation being created…
