Waking up early in winter is hard; it’s dark and cold and peeling off your cosy duvet feels like ripping off a plaster. Even worse is then having to don your fluorescent Lycra and cycle to work in the bitter 7am chill. Sometimes we need a bit of encouragement, and that’s exactly what these surprised commuters in Islington got last week.

Organisers at Cyclists Are Heroes gathered a group of lively, excited fans to cheer on cyclists riding through Islington on their way to work. The flashmob whooped at the commuters like they were Tour de France athletes and even asked some of them for photos and autographs.

We know what you’re thinking, you really wouldn’t appreciate being asked for a photograph when you’re half-way through your sweaty, bleary-eyed commute. But this lot seemed to love it, take a look at the video below!

But what’s it all for? Well, to go with the video, organisers wrote: ‘We can’t all ride the Tour de France, but every cyclist deserves a little celebration.’ Hear, hear!
