What do the words ‘comedy club’ make you think of? Happy faces sharing a laugh? A fun and funny night out with your mates? Not Brendon Burns. The outspoken stand-up just thinks back to drunken dickheads, annoying hecklers and loud stag parties more interested in the cheap beer than the actual comedy.
That’s why Burns is ditching the comedy circuit on his ‘Outside the Box’ tour, playing lots of strange venues, as long as they aren’t comedy clubs. So far he’s performed in cinemas, libraries, tea shops, jazz bars and even a burrito joint. Now, Time Out can exclusively reveal that for his London stint, Burnsy will be playing the most hipster place in the capital: Brick Lane’s Cereal Killer Cafe.
It might seem outlandish, but it means rather than Burns finding any old audience to win over, the punters that want to see him will find him. Plus you can have a few Cheerios alongside your ho-hos.
