Looking for some bargain books and free furniture for your new pad? Or maybe you’ve got some bulky bits and pieces you want to get rid of? Head to a ‘Give and Take Day’ in Hackney on Sunday (March 1). It’s like Freecycle in real-life.

Residents of Barnet, Camden, Enfield, Hackney, Haringey, Islington and Waltham Forest can head down to The Boiler House Community Space on Cazenove Road to either pick up some free stuff or get rid of their used goods. Books, DVDs, CDs, garden ware, IT, tools, clothes, shoes, furniture, electrical items and toys are all accepted. There’s also going to be a repair workshop where you can brush up on your DIY skills.

Head to N16 between 1pm and 2.45pm to give stuff away and from 3pm to 4pm to take things you need. Hey, one man’s waste is another’s treasure!

The event is part of a series of re-use events run by North London Waste Authority and London Community Resource Network. They estimate that the same programme stopped 8,000 tonnes of waste getting thrown out last year.
