At La Freak Smut Cinema, party people are treated to visual kink as well as dancefloor fun, as Oliver Keens finds out.

For some, the perfect night out might end in sex. At La Freak Smut Cinema, however, things are a little different. Their parties begin with sex. Having hosted saucy soirées in secret rooms on Hackney Road, this erotically charged night out has found a home at the Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club. At the core of the parties is a love of all things sexy and celluloid. For the first half of the night, organisers Missy and Messy La Freak screen a series of curated shorts and animations which deliberately blur the lines between art and porn. Their ethos is to wrest kink away from the mainstream and present something alternative, that’s inclusive of all modes of sexuality, and be ever so slightly provocative along the way. After a few hours of sauce, and with guests’ blood pumping hard, a dancefloor emerges and it turns into a fun and filthy dance party – with VJs and DJs joining forces.

To give us a better idea of what to expect, we asked Missy and Messy to tell us about five smutty treats they’ve got in store…

Kiss (pic above)

‘It starts with a kiss… for our first film of the night, we don’t take things any further than a kiss. Both the music and visuals are fast flowing and psychedelic, throwing our voyeuristic viewers into the deep end and setting hearts racing. All without making it to second base.’

E’s Garden

‘Danish art house duo Naked Love Film make truly original animated erotica, with every screen hand-drawn. Their work is always incredibly well received. This one shows one of the longest sex scenes of the night, but it’s yet to cause any mass eye-averting.’

Hold Me So Tight It Hurts

‘BDSM is hot right now, but sadly what’s out there filmwise often seems to veer between being either too hardcore or too cheesy. With this film, however, director Erika Lust tackles rope binding with an intense beauty, yet still has the audience biting their lips.’

Muff

‘“Muff” is a mash up of classic ’70s porn with a focus on the crowning glory that the era is known for – that unashamed abundance of let’s-play-hide-and-seek hair. Outrage at the lack of it in modern porn was a sticking point for us, so we’re proud of this ode to the muff.’

He Man

‘Playing with the notorious “male gaze”, the tables are turned in this film, which puts the male form on a pedestal and demands perfection. Expect muscles, sweat, Grecian gods, gladiatoresque fight scenes and Olympians.’

La Freak Smut Cinema is at Bethnal Green Working Men’s Club on Sat Feb 28. 10.30pm-2am. £10.
