Sally Clarke, Head chef at Clarke’s

You’ve got £20 to take a friend out for dinner. Where do you go?

‘I’d go to Princi, the Italian bakery in Soho, and choose some wonderful, fresh-out-of-the-oven pizza [from £6.50] or focaccia [£4.60], and one of their delicious desserts. I’d have it with a glass of something nonalcoholic; they do some lovely juices [from £3.60].’

Know any good places to take the kids that won’t break the bank?

Lucky 7, which is Tom Conran’s hamburger joint. It’s a really fun American diner. I normally get the cheeseburger [£7.25] with my son. And it has lovely milkshakes made with Oreo cookies and ice cream [£5.50] as well as big fat chips with the skins on [£3.25].’

Where’s your favourite takeaway?

‘The toasted cheese sandwich stall Kappacasein in Borough Market. The three-cheese toastie on Poilane sourdough bread [£5] makes the perfect on-the-go street snack.’
