Do you have any guilty pleasures?

‘If I’m at a motorway services, I’m a sucker for a McDonald’s or a Subway. And I really like Meat Liquor, which is kind of fast food. I’m not sure it counts as a guilty pleasure, but I also love beans on toast at home.’

What about secret places?

‘There’s a builder’s caff around the corner from my restaurant that nobody knows about. It’s called The Cat & Cucumber [182 Tower Bridge Rd]. I go in there to get a bacon-and-egg sandwich and a cup of tea for, like, £2.’

Where do you go for a quick bite to eat at lunchtime?

José. If you get a couple of small plates, it’s about ten quid. The food is classic Spanish tapas: patatas bravas, jamón, croquetas, tortilla. I love it because you can go in and out in 20 minutes, and it’s always hustley and bustley – there are a few seats, but it’s pretty much standing.’

Where do you pick up your Friday night takeaway?

‘I’m a big fan of my local Chinese, Ho Ho [59 Southwark Park Rd]. It’s really good grub. I normally get duck with pancakes [from £7.10] or prawns with salt and chilli [£4.90].’
