The Draft House mini-chain are celebrating Pie Week by asking customers to submit their most extravagant and outstandingly tasty pie concoctions via Instagram. Your delicious pastry parcels must be made with ingredients from The Draft House flip chart, which includes stuff like streaky bacon, dorking cock, scotch bonnet and smoked cheddar, then they’ll stand a chance of winning of two categories – Most Delicious Pie and Craziest Pie. The winners will be treated to a slap-up meal – including their pie recipe – for them and friends at a Draft House pub. March 2-8
Forget the fancy puff pastry, true pie fans love a good, firm, meaty, stuffed pork pie. At the Princess Victoria’s Great British Pork Pie off last night a host of fabulous chefs from the likes of The Dairy, Newman Street Tavern and Social Eating House played around with flavours and ingredients to create their ultimate pie. The contestants were judged by Selfridges’ restaurants director Hannah Bass, ‘Pie Man’ Andy Bates and chefs Rowley Leigh and Henry Harris. The winning pie was a Tamworth pork pie with seasoning which came from Newman Street Tavern’s head chef. Stop by Selfridges’ food hall on March 7-8 to grab one of the winning pies which will be stocked for the last few days of British Pie Week.
Over at Gordon Ramsay’s Savoy Grill they take their pies seriously, which is why they’ll be celebrating the pastry creation for a whole month. Each week of March will see a different pie added to the menu. During Pie Week you can savour a Norfolk Black chicken and crayfish pie with tarragon sauce for a hefty £18. Alternatively you can get West Country pork and pistachio pie with house pickles for a tenner from March 9-15, followed by steak and Maldon Rock Oyster pie (Mar 16-22) and Nanna Wilcox’s smoked bacon, parsley and potato pie. Mar 23-29
