Forget London Film Festival, our city’s about to gain the finest celebration of cinema in its history: the YouTube Cat Video Film Festival (YCVFF).

Hosted by the Deptford Film Festival, the event’s the latest in a flurry of feline events to hit London. We gained #museumcats day and Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium in 2014. In fact, VHS cat videos were even shown at the Found Footage Festival in 2013.

YCVFF’s taking place on April 25 at the Big Red Pizzeria on Deptford Church Street. The series of free hour-long screenings of kitty clips – all of which are picked by attendees – was inspired by a similar event in Minneapolis. Guests are invited to ‘dress up in your cat onesies and shamelessly watch tabbies in boxes, kittens in mittens and pussies on the dance floor’, with all ages of cat-lover welcome.

That’s the good news. The bad news: those viewing slots are now booked up. However, you can sign up for a mysterious waiting list over on the Deptford Film Club website, so we reckon they might put on a few more screenings if enough people are interested. Purr-lease, guys?
