Pop-ups used to give individual restaurants the chance to find their way in the industry and make a name for themselves. Nowadays, however, they’re just as likely to showcase restaurant collectives, such as Kingston’s Riverside Edge or Shoreditch’s BoxPark.
The latest food-themed pop-up, which launched on the South Bank this week, is The Moveable Feast: a selection of vegetarian start-ups including street-food favourites, festival-circuit hits and first-time restaurateurs. Running throughout spring and summer, The Moveable Feast will introduce the capital to veggie hot-dog duo Katie and Jane, of Not Dogs; two committed herbivores whose restaurant The Salad Kitchen’s USP is inventive, cliché-free salads; and Luminary Bakery, whose cakes are made by vulnerable women being given the opportunity to learn new skills.
With participants changing every couple of months, lunch on the river just got a whole lot more interesting.
