A statue of Indian spiritual leader Mahatma Gandhi has been unveiled in Parliament Square, at a ceremony attended by David Cameron, Bollywood star Amitabh Bachchan and Gandhi’s grandson, Shri Gopalkrishna Gandhi.

The statue was unveiled opposite the Palace of Westminster, where Gandhi has been pitched up next to his old adversary, Winston Churchill, who once described him as a ‘half-naked fakir who should be trampled by an elephant.’ Which isn’t very nice. But, now that Gandhi has been given an ‘eternal home’ in the UK, it looks like they might have enough time to make up.
