Board senseless? @WeWantPlates campaigns for dishes on actual dishes

Plates – the ceramic circles of joy that are the foundation of any high-quality (or even medium-quality) eating experience. But the humble hero of flatware is being too readily eschewed by restaurants and cafés, according to @WeWantPlates, in favour of novelty surfaces and ridiculous receptacles. The misuse of flat wooden boards and lipless slates arouses particular ire (‘Ice cream on a slate!’ ‘I was secretly glad when my sorbet melted all over table. Just use a plate!’) as do meals where each ingredient arrives in its own pointlessly tiny container. Here are some of the dodgy dishes they’ve featured recently…

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Just don’t show them our favourite dish in London – it’s bound to wind them right up.
