Here at Time Out we love a good bit of creativity and believe that everyone should have the chance to follow their dream career. So we were really sad to hear that due to a lack of funding IdeasTap, the arts charity that has been helping young people break into creative industries, is being forced to close. Thankfully a load of people out there feel equally peeved at the closure and have set up a great petition to prevent it and fight against the arts becoming solely accessible to the more privileged among us.
Over the past few years IdeasTap has been there to support flourishing actors, writers, dancers, singers, photographers, and other creatives. It has provided young people of all backgrounds with access to training and events in order to boost CVs and facilitate networking. It has also been a great hub for job hunting and connecting with fellow arty folk.
As usual, insufficient funding and an upsetting lack of government support means that, despite spending the past year seeking a solution to the problem, the charity can no longer continue. So now it’s time for some people power. Hopefully with enough exposure, support and a boost to funding, IdeasTap can still be saved. You can read more about it here.
