Try some sugar-coated goodness this Macaron Day

Macarons

Every dessert has its day – and the macaron’s national day is coming up on March 20. Before you start rolling your eyes, this one’s for a good cause, with participants donating a percentage of their profits from the day to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

And there’s something in it for you, too. Wander into any Pierre Hermé boutique over the weekend of March 20-22 and the maison will offer you one of its 25 flavours of picture-perfect macarons in return for a donation to the cause (it will also donate a percentage of its profits from Macaron Day to the charity).

Meanwhile, high-end chocolatier William Curley will be selling boxes of macarons for £10 a pop, with £5 going to the Cystic Fibrosis Trust. Again, you don’t have to be completely altruistic in your purchase – first of all, you get to eat all the macarons, plus some of the boxes contain ‘lucky tickets’ for prizes to redeem in the store. You can even win a macaron-making class for two via a raffle in aid of the cause.

So if you fancy something sweet that weekend, make it a macaron.
