Have we reached peak novelty café? Well, Russell Brand doesn’t think so – the comedian is riding the coffee wave and is opening up his very own venue, which he reckons is going to be pretty revolutionary.
The Trew Era Café is opening on the Hackney estate where Brand protested with residents and won against a planned eviction. It will be a social enterprise instead of a profit-making company, and is being set up with the profits from Brand’s latest book, ‘Revolution’.
Here’s a dodgy Photoshop impression:
In the Brand-themed watering hole, political denizens will hotly debate the day’s issues, sipping on fairtrade flat whites while petting a real life Russell Brand. Okay, so we made that last bit up – no-one really knows what it will be like yet but all will be revealed on Thursday at 11am, when Russell Brand is expected to open the café himself.
Trew Era Café will open at 30 Whitmore Road, N1 5RS. Find out more at by following them on Twitter on @treweracafe.
