We asked London’s most distinctive Instagrammers to give us a tour of their favourite market through the lens of their smartphone camera – for a truly personal set of stall stories. @MattPike shows us around Broadway Market.
‘Broadway Market is a real mixed bag: you’ve got your fruit and veg, meat and fish stalls all rubbing shoulders with street food, flower stalls, secondhand… sorry, ‘vintage’ clothes and crafts stalls. Then there’s the permanent cafés, boutiques, bookshops, restaurants and, most importantly, the pubs. There’s also Netil Market, which is great for street food, and The School Yard Market that takes place around the corner every Saturday.’
In my basket: ‘One of my go-to stalls for the perfect gift is RoCo. It sells handmade bespoke terrariums, pots and DIY kits designed to provide homes for indoor plants. One of the best street food stalls in the market, French n Caribbean feeds the masses with its amazing hot and spicy curries – always served with a smile! From Abba to Zappa, it’s all there at Netil Market where the cool cats flick through boxes of vinyl. I’ve spent many a Saturday propping up the wooden hut at Morty & Bob’s. Jesse and Charlie grill the finest gourmet cheese sandwiches in London, their new mushroom-and-truffle version does wonders for anyone nursing a hangover.’
Broadway Market, E8 4PH. Sat 7.30am-7pm.
