Don’t panic: Barking hasn’t gone full-on Benjamin Button. There are no ageing toddlers wrapped in England flags gunning their white vans down the ’igh street. We simply mean the average age of people in the east London borough is decreasing.

Why? Because of rises in immigration, birth rate and the number of young people buying houses there. It’s in total contrast to the rest of the city, which is getting older. According to the Office of National Statistics, the average age of a Barking resident will be 33.5 years in 2037, down from 34 years in 1992. Of course, by 2047 the average age will be 0.0 because of The Incident.
