Arnie’s back! He’s old! And he’s teaming up with the Mother of Dragons! Yes, the new trailer for this summer’s megabudget franchise reboot ‘Terminator: Genisys’ has just launched, and it’s pretty phenomenal. Shifting away from the cyclical timeline established in the original series – Sarah Connor (played here by Emilia Clarke from ‘Game of Thrones’) gives birth to John Connor, John Connor defeats the robots, the robots send a Terminator back in time to kill Sarah Connor – the new movie takes place in a world where Sarah is already a robot-killing badass thanks to some kind of cock-up at time-travel head office. Plus, she already has a pet Schwarzenegger to drive her around and make cheap cyborg wisecracks.
The big news in this hot-off-the-press trailer is that we finally get a look at the new-model Terminator, which goes one step further even than the freaky, shapeshifting T-1000 in ‘Terminator 2′ and dissolves into what we assume are little crystalline nanobots. To make things even more upsetting, it’s got John Connor’s face, and the trailer even implies that John may have been a robot for some time, perverting the course of history for the machines’ own devious ends. Could the whole thing have been a set-up?
We’ll find out the answer to that pressing question and many more – including what the hell ‘Genisys’ is supposed to mean – when the movie opens on Friday July 3.
