Bad news: Start is closing. Good news: 50 percent off bloody everything

Start boutique, a fixture of our 100 best shops feature and a Time Out shopping favourite, is zipping up its Mulberry handbags, stowing its statement Sophia Webster heels and clopping off into the sunset. Brix Smith Start and Mr Start have decided that with their lease up, the time has come to move onto other fash projects, one little pug tucked under each arm. Which is very bad news for designer fashion lovers and fashion designers – for 12 years Start has been one of the few East End retailers of the kind of labels you normally only find in Mayfair and Liberty. And yet also good news for designer fashion lovers – as EVERYTHING IN STORE IS GOING FOR 50 PERCENT OFF. That’s Acne, Isabel Marant, J Brand, Church’s. If it’s a cool young designer, it’s probably on the rails, going for a song. The only items going for a still-unmissable 30 percent off are Comme (get your wallets now) and fragrances. The other piece of good news is that if you’re a man you’ll still be able to buy a Mr Start suit – the gent’s shop at No 40 Rivington Street will remain open, and house an expanded in-house label. But that still leaves us bidding a very fond farewell to one of our favourite shops when shoppers have left the shelves bare.
