This week’s new movies: You know too much, Jon Snow!

With the Avengers still superheroically defending their position at the top of the box-office, it’s no surprise that there are no major blockbusters coming out this week. The closest thing to a multiplex big-hitter is ‘Spooks: The Greater Good’, in which the BBC’s prime-time team of MI5 operatives makes the leap to the cinema screen, ganging up with ‘Game of Thrones’ star Kit Harington for a modest but entertaining ‘Bourne’-style spy game.

Which doesn’t mean to say that there isn’t a strong crop of new movies on offer. ‘Girlhood’ is a smart French-language coming-of-age story focusing on issues of race, class and teenage conformity. German drama ‘Phoenix’ delivers a terrific thriller set in the ruins of post-war Berlin. And despite some highly misleading TV ads, ‘Top Five’ is a subtle, easygoing Richard Linklater-ish walk-and-talk comedy from the increasingly interesting Chris Rock.
