Whether you’re fond of fish, researching reptiles or just dog mad, the London Pet Show this weekend is a blast, with lots of fun things to do. Sara O’Reilly picks five of the best.
1. See showjumping rabbits
Most pet bunnies are content to look cute and chew through computer cables. These guys think they’re in the Grand National and they look like they love leaping more than lettuce. This is the only event in the UK where you can see these bouncy bad boys in action.
2. Drop in on a Doga demo
It’s a yoga session your pooch gets to take part in: you’re the yogi, he’s the dogi. Mahny Djahanguiri’s pet-and-owner classes are pretty laidback but growling’s a no-no (the dogs have to be nice, too).
3. Check out a master of disguise
If cuddles are not a high priority, consider a chameleon – you’ll find them doing their colourful thing in the Reptiles area.
4. Watch the SuperDogs Live finals
Smurf, 2014’s ‘Most Talented Dog’, is returning to defend his title with a routine that includes skateboarding, high-fiving – and fake limping (aww!).
5. Catch the Quack Pack in action
Meirion Owen and his supersmart border collies chivvy a bunch of funny ducks round an obstacle course. They take to it like, well, ducks to water, although things don’t always go entirely to plan…
The London Pet Show is at ExCeL, E16 1XL. Custom House DLR. Sat May 9 and Sun May 10. £18.10, £12.78 children (five-15), free under-fives.
