Elephant and Castle might be getting a ten-storey-high elephant monument made of earth

Elephant and Castle has always been distinctly lacking in both elephants and castles – but that could all be about to change, at least on the elephant front. Artist Dominic Snow has put forward plans for a 40-metre tall elephant monument, which would be made from ground dug up from developments in the area. The elephant-shaped ten-storey building would house a museum with information on the borough, as well as a viewing tower on top as a (kind of) castle. But sadly, the Elephant Park developers, Lend Lease, don’t share Snow’s enthusiasm for giant elephants and have said that the design is unsuitable. Boo! Give the people what they want: a massive elephant made of dirt, obviously.
