We asked London’s most distinctive Instagrammers to give us a tour of their favourite market through the lens of their smartphone camera – for a truly personal set of stall stories. Malaysian North London dweller @tschang takes us on a tour of Borough Market.
‘Borough Market is the oldest market in London: last year, it celebrated its thousandth anniversary. I love its lively vibe and the variety of food from all over the world that you can find on sale in one place. Tucked under the London Bridge viaduct and located next to Southwark Cathedral, the market also provides a beautiful backdrop for photography.’
In my basket: ‘Turnips Borough is a one-stop shop for vegetables, from local to exotic. I like to visit during the autumn when you get to see enormous, bright orange pumpkins. The best doughnuts in town are to be had from Bread Ahead. The fillings are so smooth! And they come in heaps of different flavours. The queue during lunchtime for the pulled-pork baps at Hobbs Meat Roast says it all: their pulled pork is well seasoned and delicious. Patisserie Lila is the place to go for macaroons. The colours are attractive enough, let alone the flavours! I just can’t walk past without buying a couple to take home with me.’
Southwark St, SE1 1TL. Open for lunch: Mon, Tue 10am-5pm. Full market: Wed, Thu 10am-5pm; Fri 10am-6pm; Sat 8am-5pm.
