This multi-level bar and restaurant is just a short stroll from Nelson’s Column, which is just about as good a location as a restaurant could ask for. But The Strand Dining Rooms launched last autumn to reviews that were lukewarm at best. Mark Sargeant (one of Gordon Ramsay’s former lieutenants) has been brought in as executive chef to pep things up. But simply attaching the name of a highly regarded chef – even one with the prodigious talent that Sarge unquestionably possesses – is not necessarily enough to turn a rubber dinghy into a yacht.
