You know as well as we do that a great deal of drinks shows – despite being hyped to brain-popping levels – can turn out to be the dullest way ever invented to get drunk. You sign up expecting to party, but find yourself shuffling around some woebegotten corporate exhibition space hustling your empty glass to a handful of B-list brand ambassadors.
The people behind Gin Foundry – an online compendium dedicated to the coolest spirit of the moment – know this too. That’s why last year, when they launched their own drinks show dedicated to craft gin, they were determined not only to keep their tribe happy with plenty of chances to sample gins poured and explained by the makers themselves and super-geek masterclasses, but also to keep queues and crowds to a minimum, and to ramp up the carnival atmosphere with cocktail bars and hot new additions to the world of gin.
UK firsts for the show this year include the debut of two new craft gins – Santamanía from Spain, and Swiss product Nginious. They can be tried alongside gins from 25 producers flying in from all over the world, as well as London-based Goliaths of the scene such as Sipsmith and upcoming names such as Two Birds. Some of the UK gin brands will be revealing their new releases at the event. And it’s all happening in a cool Soho space that’s the antithesis to those soulless exhibition halls.
Junipalooza takes place from June 13-14 at the Vinyl Factory. They have just released some more tickets for the Saturday sessions. GO GO GO!
