Four Chinese and Taiwanese gems in London, as recommended by Shing Tat, co-founder of Bao.

Sun Leun Bakery

‘I can’t resist picking up a cocktail bun or pineapple (bolo) bun from here. Heat them up briefly to bring out their softness.’ 14 Little Newport St, WC2H 7JJ. Leicester Square.

Four Seasons

‘For a quick, cheap meal, nothing beats roast duck and rice here – it’s the best in Chinatown. I take away extra duck bones to make broth.’ 12 Gerrard St, W1D 5PR. Leicester Square.

Share Tea

‘My favourite place for bubble tea is Taipei, where the bubbles are made from brown sugar. When I can’t get to Taiwan and need a bubble tea fix, I come here.’ 65 Shaftesbury Avenue, W1D 6LD. Piccadilly Circus.

Silk Road

‘I used to eat here once a week with my wife Erchen, and we’d order at least 30 dumplings. The best dishes are the ox tripe with chilli oil, or the hand-made noodles.’ 49 Camberwell Church St, SE5 8TR. Denmark Hill rail.
