If your foray into the world of online dating consists of absentmindedly swiping away on Tinder, then head to The Crouch End Festival this weekend where you can go back to a simpler time at a 1950s dating agency – and listen to the real-life tales of good, old-fashioned courtship, told by London pensioners who were dating way before there was OKCupid.
The installation is an interactive experience set at the Susie Sykes fictional agency, which looks at the dating scene both past and present. In the first room you’ll need to fill in your application to ‘sign up’ to the agency, before meeting Susie to listen to stories about love and dating in London, and rummaging through her archives of real internet dating exchanges. And if you’re feeling bold, in the last room you can write down your own dating story – but before you pour your heart out, be warned it will probably be used in the next Susie Sykes show.
If you fancy getting loved-up at the Susie Sykes dating agency, you can turn up at any time during the opening hours this weekend.
‘Dated’ is on at Hornsey Town Hall, N8 9JJ, as part of the The Crouch End Festival. 3pm-9pm on June 6 and 11.30am-5.30pm on June 7. Free.
