How to celebrate National Martini Day

Legends of the Martini

What a happy coincidence! This year’s National Martini Day – tomorrow, June 19 – happens to fall on a Friday.  That means you can celebrate with abandon, perhaps even getting into the spirit of the drink as celebrated by the American writer Dorothy Parker:

I like to have a martini.

Two, at the very most.

After three, I’m under the table.

After four, I’m under my host.

We’re not suggesting that you follow Parker’s example at any of the bars where we most like drinking martinis, such as Dukes Hotel in St James’s, Zetter Townhouse in Clerkenwell, and Portobello Star in Portobello Road. But if you do make like Dorothy Parker while you’re there, don’t tell them we sent you. And if you want to decide for yourself where to celebrate, there’s our unrivalled list of London’s best cocktail bars. Happy Martini Day!

Still thirsty? Try these new bars and pubs.
