The Gory Gourmet food truck is in Lower Marsh Street today, Thursday Aug 23.

We have been offered some dodgy meals in London before, but never have we come across a menu including brain burgers, thyroid nuggets and skewered hearts. The Gory Gourmet food truck (devised by Street Kitchen’s Mark Jankel) took the current meaty trend to a whole new level when they pitched up in Camden Lock Market today to serve ‘offally good’ fast food to the zombies of Camden. Passers by were intrigued but not many dared to actually chomp on a crispy brain dipper. On biting into a thyroid nugget, one brave soul remarked ‘Oh, it’s very soft’. If you missed out today and think you can stomach it, they’ll be dishing out more free meaty morsels including chunks of brain in BBQ sauce and pig’s feet nugget at Waterloo’s Lower Marsh Market tomorrow from 12.30 to promote the release of zombie thriller ‘The Walking Dead Season 2′. Sonya Barber

For info, see facebook.com/TheWalkingDeadUK.

Calf brain anyone?

This looks a lot more appealing:

Big Red is a No30 bus which has been turned into a pizza restaurant and bar in a small spot in Deptford. An adjoining cinema-in-a-lorry will soon park up alongside it.

The foodmobile movement continues to gain strength in the capital, with an ever increasing number of gourmet food carts and vans cruising streets, markets and festivals. The latest addition to the fleet: The Big Red, a No 30 double-decker bus that has been turned into a pizzeria. The vehicle is currently parked in Deptford under an elevated section of the DLR; diners sip drinks (mojitos, wine, beer, sangria) from a small booth by the entrance before heading inside (there are also sofas outside) to eat fresh pizza, salads, ice cream and hot chocolate fudge cake. Unlike some foodmobiles, this bus doesn’t plan to move; instead, it will soon be joined by a 40ft lorry which will become a pop-up 40-seater cinema and art exhibition space. Impromptu music events are also in the offing. All aboard will clearly not be bored.

The gleaming, futuristic food truck parks at Finsbury Avenue Square (not to be confused with Finsbury Square – this one is also home to Gaucho Broadgate and The Crispin pub) on weekday lunchtimes (11.30am-2.30pm) for 3 months from today. Bistro-style dishes are created by Jun Tanaka (exec chef at Pearl, above right) and Mark Jankel (founder of The Food Initiative, above left) using seasonal ingredients from sustainable, organic UK producers. For £7 you can tuck in to braised beef with roasted carrots and celeriac mash, or hot smoked salmon with beetroot, crushed potato and horseradish – all to take away, of course. Street Kitchen operates from Monday to Friday during launch fortnight (you might even spot the devilishly handsome Jun), with a Tuesday to Thursday service for the rest of the summer.

Funded by generous backers including Ideastap, the world’s first purpose-built mobile poetry emporium offers customers bespoke poems on any subject in 10 minutes or less – for free. Headed up by ‘poetry chefs’ (Tim Clare, John Osborne, Luke Wright, Molly Naylor, Hannah Walker ) the mobile verse outlet promises a 1-on-1 performance and a handwritten serving in special branded packaging to take home. This Saturday (noon-7pm) it parks in Stoke Newington, then July 2-3 (11am-5pm daily) it hits the London Literature Festival at Southbank. Catch this van while you can.

Love it or hate it, Taste of London returns to Regent’s Park (June 16-19). Fans of the high-end food fest will be delighted to find many of the capital’s top restaurants (Kai, Scott’s, Fino, The Cinnamon Club) hosting stalls. Other highlights include a Q&A with René Redzepi (he of ‘World’s Best Restaurant’ Noma), a cookbook signing with Gwyneth Paltrow and a demo with chef Nuno Mendes, not to mention stalls from over 50 artisan producers. Tickets start from £26 pp (not including festival currency ‘crowns’ which you need if you want to eat or drink anything), which cynics will point out is a bit rich – though generous sponsor British Airways offers 2-for-1 deals on certain sessions via its website. Book now.

The team has recruited one of Singapore’s top pastry chefs, Janice Wong (above) of 2am:dessert bar who has joined up with Peter Gordon (of The Providores & Tapa Room and Kopapa) to serve up Straits-inspired dishes like lemongrass-infused laksa dumplings with noodles. Pre-registration tickets for cooking demos and tasting sessions have already sold out but you can still show up and join the queue to sample the food on offer – tasting portions are divvied out at specified times on each date.
