Thanks to the pedestrianisation of Venn Street in Clapham by Lambeth Council, the traders of the excellent monthly market held there are to be displaced for the summer but they have found a new home. Balham’s Hildreth Street, an under-utilised pedestrian avenue just off the high street, hosts Venn Street Market’s excellent array of traders once a month today, July 17 (to coincide with Balham’s food festival) and September 18. Expect fine foods (artisan breads, rare-breed meats) alongside crafts, plants and stalls from local shops and restaurants. The Wine Tasting Shop, for instance, will offer samples at 50p a pop. If the new market is a success, it may even take up permanent residence: we’ll keep you posted.
