Jay Dee’s Caribbean food: a must-eat at The Notting Hill Carnival

Posted at 12:00 pm, August 26, 2011 in Food & Drink

chicken at Jay Dee's restaurantSince it opened in April 2011, Jay Dee’s tiny Caribbean catering and takeaway joint just off Lancaster Road has been an island of flavour in this gentrified ’hood. For Carnival weekend, Dee sets up a stall outside to feed the ravenous hordes. Usually just a couple of tables and a sign can be seen from the outside but the wafts of fried chicken and stews lure people in. The hair-netted ladies inside cook up a rotating list of daily specials – tender ackee and salt fish, curries and jerk chicken – for repeat customers who order ahead or are happy to slip into island time while they wait.
