The great Askew Road food resurgence

Posted at 11:30 am, December 2, 2011 in Food & Drink

The Ginger PigGinger Pig (above) is the latest addition to a burgeoning enclave of food shops and cafés on Askew Road, Shepherd’s Bush. Until a few years ago Askew Road was a fairly desolate strip linking Uxbridge Road to Goldhawk Road, with various paint shops, bric-a-brac and off-licences lining the way. Now the various food shops make it worth a  special trip. Stop by at independent AskeWines at 84 Askew Road to pick up a bottle of decent wine. A block or so south, the Lavelli Bakery (104 Askew Rd, W12 9BL) makes decadently flaky croissants and an intensely dense cheesecake. Across the road, the sparkly new Ginger Pig has rare breed (Tamworth pig, Longhorn beef, Dorset sheep etc meats raised on own-grown fodder. Wrap up your wandering at one of the nearby pubs: the Eagle at the southern end of Askew Road, or the Anglesea Arms on Wingate Road with a pint or two.
