Christmas EvilIt’s traditional in December for London’s repertory houses to pull out a few cosy Christmas classics: look out for the likes of ‘It’s a Wonderful Life’ and ‘Miracle on 34th St’ coming soon to a cinema near you. But the season gets going this week with a pair of gruesome yuletide gorefests: at the Roxy Bar & Screen on Sunday Dec 4, settle into a ‘Ho-Ho-Horror’ triple bill with slasher trendsetter ‘Black Christmas’, controversial Santa-splat saga ‘Silent Night, Deadly Night’ and the daddy of all festive frighteners, ‘Gremlins’. Then at the Prince Charles on Wednesday Dec 7, director Lewis Jackson, horror expert Kim Newman and the Cigarette Burns crew present one of the finest, weirdest and least known festive themed horror flicks, ‘Christmas Evil’, aka ‘You Better Watch Out’, in which a young man’s fury when he discovers the truth about Santa Claus sends him on a crazed killing spree. Time to block up the chimney…
