Tube picture of the day: a long wait

© tube_boob@tube_boob is a Londoner with a love for the tube. To celebrate the great underground’s idiosyncrasies, they started tweeting at @tube_boob to capture some classic tubetastic moments. Here are some of their favourite tube moments…

‘The tube carries over 3.5 million passengers every day, so can be forgiven for making the odd mistake. On the other hand, however, these little errors can seriously affect passengers’ mood. Safety issues aside, it’s often the seemingly small hiccups that most get under the skin of stressed-out commuters, such as broken escalators, temperamental ticket gates or incorrect information boards.

To keep tempers from flaring, a light-hearted approach is needed, because if you don’t laugh, you’d probably cry. Thank goodness for hardened train drivers and their infomative-yet-sarcastic announcements (‘The train is being held due to a fight on the platform. When I receive further information – ie who’s winning – I’ll let you know’), station staff brightening up our day with fun messages on noticeboards (Beware! Pigeon overhead!), and, of course, social networking – to share these annoyances with thousands of other like-minded people. After all, a problem shared…’.
