Focus on the Aperture tea room in Fitzrovia

ApertureThere are good reasons why an esoteric, vintage camera shop should also have a tea room at the back. First of all, it gives you the chance to say  ‘I want tea. And make it snappy.’ Secondly,  it allows you a moment of contemplation before you part with big rolls of cash for that medium format twin lens reflex camera you’ve always wanted. Thirdly, the Japanese staff have some really nice teas on offer  – Japanese green teas, or black teas with milk in the British way, if you prefer. The baked nibbles (cakes mainly) are good quality, if tea ceremony sized. The feel of this place  – a recent offshoot of a more established camera shop near the British Museum  – is suitably vintage, and much calmer than the assault of people along Tottenham Court Road. It might make you ponder: who needs the latest DSLR anyway?
