Looking to assimilate with the natives this summer? Here’s our failsafe guide to recreating the city’s satnd-out styles. Today’s look: the Bleach babe
The hallmark of a Dalston girl is her hair – invariably graduating in colour from normal at the roots to a heavily assisted blonde, a defiant shade of pink/green or leopard print. Her stomping ground (and, in those 18- hole Doc Martens, we do mean stomp) is The Strip – the section of Kingsland Road anchored by dip-dye hair punk salon Bleach at one end and snooker hall-cum-hipster hangout Efes at the other. Bleach babe wears band T-shirts celebrating groups who were on stage while she was still listening to Noddy and Big Ears, teamed with an artful mixture of vintage, Topshop and the odd designer splash-out, such as a mini Mulberry or a pair of House of Holland tights… frequently laddered from house party dance-offs. She’s first past the post with any trend, even if it’s represented in microformat through the medium of nail art courtesy of Wah.
