Getting on London’s wave length: tube map radio at @DesignMuseum

Yuri Suzuki's London Underground Circuit Map Radio

Did you know that Harry Beck (the designer of the current underground map) was originally an electrical engineer? Even if you did, you might be surprised to find out that he based his famous design on an electrical schematic rather than a geographical map. His design resulted in the more consistent, easier to read, grid-like map that we all know and love today. Taking inspiration from Beck, designer Yuri Suzuki has made a fully functional radio on a printed circuit board that looks just like our tube map as part of the Designer in Residence project at London Design Museum. The map will be on display until January when we hope he starts mass producing them so we have something new to listen to in Time Out Towers. Carly-Ann Clements
