Winter’s cold, dark and can be a tad miserable, so any opportunity to liven up the frozen evenings should be embraced. Allow us to introduce the Midwinter Ball at Kensington Palace on Thursday December 13, a sumptuous masquerade ball with a carnivalesque edge in an icy winter wonderland, or so they promise. Held at one of London’s most regal addresses, we’re not sure the lavish 18th century Orangery is quite ready for this kind of party. The night will feature music from the Trans-Siberian March Band, Julian Gaskell and his Ragged Trousered Philanthropists, performance art by escape artist The Irrepressible Mr Flay and hula-hoop maestro Anna the Hulagan, as well as magic and a tour of the palace by night. Guests are encouraged to dress to impress. Start planning your outfit now. Jonno Hopkins
