Entrepreneurial kids at Acland Burghley School in Tufnell Park could soon be setting up US Prohibition-era style ‘speakeasies’ in the playground – but not for alcohol. Pupils are predicting a roaring blackmarket trade in cherryade, cola and orangeade following the school’s recent announcement that it is implementing a ‘water only policy’ to encourage healthy eating. Students say the policy risks driving fizzy pop drinking underground. One student Jake Phillips, 15, told The Camden New Journal, ‘There is business potential now there’s a gap in the market. Prohibition always leads to supply and demand. I personally haven’t started a speakeasy. I’ve heard the idea floated by other people.’ Coke dealing just took on a whole new meaning… Rebecca Taylor
